The HeartSine samaritan AED (not to be confused with the HeartSine samaritan PAD model) is an easy-to-use and very portable defibrillator that offers you a choice of options within 3 separate models, named "Basic," "Standard," and "Advanced." The differences between them are based on the LCD display detail and manual override options.
Although all three samaritan models appear similar, some options are geared toward professional rescuers while others are better suited for lay-rescuers. For example, model SAM 003 is the basic model perfect for most applications. Model SAM 002 is the same, except the display adds an ECG readout. The SAM 001 is the advanced model which allows specifically trained medical personnel to monitor non-emergent patients with an ECG cable and to manually override the AED to shock as needed.
Other features of this device include the huge back lit LCD display, a rechargeable battery option, and the patient data storage capability of the battery pack. The battery is a lithium manganese dioxide (LiMnO2) type with a capacity, when new, of 120 shocks or 12 hours of continuous monitoring. A full line of accessories are also available.
The HeartSine samaritan AED uses a biphasic escalating energy protocol. It performs an electronic self-check of internal components and battery weekly and every time the unit is turned on.
